With a blog that encourages women to embrace confidence and self-love, you should know I’m completely here for this INTERNATIONAL holiday. Today is the day we celebrate all that women have accomplished thus far, as you know women have overcome many social and economic injustices. Today is an international holiday, made by the women and for the women. So here are some facts, important dates and even more of a reason today should be celebrated.
1909- National women’s day was introduced after the New York strike against work conditions for women.
1910-Women's day was established and serves a purpose of honoring women's rights and achieving universal suffrage for women. 100 women from 17 different countries acted as the representatives.
1911-Women's day was celebrated in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland and parts of the US at the time on March 19.
1914-1916-Campaigning during war time.
1975-Women's day has been celebrated on March 8.
2014-Statistics shows that International Women's day is now celebrated in over 100 countries.
I can't even imagine a world whereas a women I felt boxed in from being able to do whatever it is that I want to do, to not express my opinion and constantly be looked at as fragile and sensitive. Thankful for the women who fought for women's rights and because of them in 2018 we're able to add "girl boss" to our credentials.
Women play a major role in my life as I know and have been groomed into the woman I am because of the women before me. This day is definitely needed to remind everybody of the history behind it and to act as a measurement of how far we've come and how much further we have to go. Happy INTERnational Women's day!
