Sometimes we're our own biggest critic, so it's important that we're not focusing on being hard on ourselves, but pushing ourselves to be better. In retrospect, I use to enable my own behavior and habits. I would sugar coat how I talked to myself, chose to be oblivious and completely lacked discipline and it showed in how the universe kept showing me the same patterns, the same results, the same situations with the same conclusions. I honestly never understood the true depth of inner work and how to literally change your life until... I finally realized the true depth of inner work and how to change my life. We hear things all the time from our mothers, our peers, people we look up to and they all say the same things which sometimes we don't understand until one day... we do. Once I became tired of my situation, my choices, my circumstances I learned how to gain control of my life and essentially started to mold myself into the person I need to be in order to go where I want to go. I think that idea alone holds enough value to inspire anyone to chase their dreams. In order to get where you want to go, you have to groom yourself into that person. For example, if you aspire to be a blogger with a successful blog and to reach financial freedom, you may start to practice better spending habits, reading other blogs, exercising your writing skills and brainstorming ideas. In order to propel in the direction of your choice, you have to start the movement and meet your goals halfway. I've only recently come to these realizations, so I am eager to share what has been helping me push myself to be better, here's my top 5:

  1. Be Honest. It is key to do self reflection often. Check in with yourself. Evaluate your week, evaluate your day. In situations where you are committing something you are working on within yourself, check yourself and hold yourself accountable. Also, allow yourself to dream, but not to dwell in a fantasy. Remind yourself always of reality and focus on the things you can change.

  2. Reward Yourself. Remember I said that sometimes we're our own biggest critics? We also have to be our own biggest cheerleader. Treat yourself after accomplishing goals. Reward yourself after completing a task. Treat yourself how you want the universe to treat you. Show the universe you are diligent and worthy.

  3. Detox Often. We all have a list of guilty pleasures we sometimes indulge in. Challenge yourself often to detox from these things. Tackle them at once or one at a time, but make sacrifices. The goal is to groom yourself into the person you want to be, but you never know, the universe may reward you for your sacrifice as well.

  4. Meditate. Silence your mind. Silence your surroundings. Ground yourself and re-center yourself. Align your chakras and lead with a better mindset into your goals. Start or end your day with some moments to yourself. Quieting your mind can reduce outside noise and help you see clearer on your goals.

  5. Surround Yourself with Better. Align yourself entirely with who you desire to be. Cut out bad habits, bad choices, bad associates and fill it with better decisions, people who align with you want to be, limit your intake on gossip and negativity, fill it with education and enlightenment. Practicing and sorting these things out can clear your mind and space of what your are trying to move away from.

Change is not easy. Discipline isn't easy either. It's so easy to resort back to old habits especially when you are both the person disciplining and being disciplined too. Be gracious with yourself as you navigate the new you. Remind yourself and stay focused on that person. Create attainable goals and pace yourself. You got this!
