February...my favorite month and for so many reasons. My birth month, black history month and a host of festivals that just make this short month seem so amazing. What better way to celebrate my favorite month than to feature a fellow aquarian?
Meet KirstenJ. A 22 year old Baltimore native, now Atlanta resident attending Clark Atlanta University where her major is mass media arts. Kirsten is a phenomenal dancer, choreographer and visionary. She is the owner and creator of "A Night In Heels" where she teaches women of all ages how to feel sexy and confident all while working out in heels! Don't get it twisted, Kirsten has a strong and extensive background in dance. She was trained by the best of the best, some being Carver Center for the Arts and Technology, The Carroll School of Dance and Baltimore Dance Tech. She's also a leader... how you ask? Well, she's also the team captain for The Essence Dance Line for the Marching Panther Band at Clark Atlanta University. Of course, I had the pleasure of being able to ask her a few questions, here's what she had to say...
Q: What is my opinion of self-confidence?
K: Being capable of trusting that you’re ENOUGH. To understand that there’s nothing wrong with being proud of who you are. To constantly remind yourself how beautiful you’re. Self-confidence is reminding yourself there’s only one YOU so be the best you, you can be.
Q: What is my opinion on self-love?
K: So glad I get to speak on the topic of self-love because I feel the importance of it isn’t being talked about enough. To accept yourself flaws and all is true self-love because none of us are perfect. We often get so caught up in friendships, relationships, and society telling us what we should look and feel like that we lose sight of who we are as individuals. We must love ourselves before we desire to be loved by anyone else. Self-love is being able to stand tall whether you have 100 people by your side or just one. There’s a difference between being lonely and simply just being alone, once you understand that, you understand self-love.
Q: Describe the qualities of a confident woman and what steps are you taking to become that woman?
K: A confident woman is strong, intelligent and more importantly knows and understands her worth. Everyday I make sure I'm always working towards being that woman. By believing in myself, going outside of my comfort zone and always setting myself at a high standard.
