This Thanksgiving I was blessed enough to be able to give thanks. No, not by voicing what I'm thankful for when I get asked at the dinner table, but by going out and actually giving back. This Thanksgiving, I thought it was crucial to volunteer because 2017 was filled with more and more life changing challenges that made me so thankful to still be here in good health, money in pocket and the ability to turn it all around whenever I want to.

This holiday I spent time packaging and putting together thanksgiving dinner essential foods for those who may not be able to afford them. I came across people who were thankful, people who were still bitter and even children who were so innocent that they were happy regardless. Times like this always puts things into perspective for me.

When I was younger, I was very spoiled. Growing up, I had the worst attitude and had the worst tantrums because I was stuck on being spoiled. It took me years and when I say years, I mean years to cut the attitude and bite my tongue when things don't go my way. Moments like volunteering and giving back puts things into perspective for me. It lets me know that my issues are so small, what I get mad over is not worth it and all that I do have, I should be grateful for because there are some people who don't have a thing, not even a family to share holidays like this with.

This thanksgiving everything that I am thankful for consists of what God has internally given me. Things that money can't buy and people can't see with their naked eye. Although I'm still growing, I am thankful for the progress I've made. I've gained more insight, more patience, more self-love, more confidence, more motivation, more determination and more self-awareness. These are all things I can continue to grow on to eventually be where I would like to be. With tough times and perseverance, comes the absolute need to just be thankful.
